Cloud computing is becoming an accepted and widely utilised technology both for private and public organisations. The Cloud for Europe project, in support of the European Cloud Partnership, will assist the public sector to implement well-defined cloud computing strategies. The Cloud for Europe conference offers exclusive insights into the European public sector cloud market, such as security and privacy issues, national cloud initiatives, the role of cloud computing in the digital service infrastructure, and cloud computing services and market places.

The Cloud for Europe Conference 2013 is organised by the Cloud for Europe project and Fraunhofer FOKUS with the support of the European Commission and in association with the European Cloud Partnership Steering Board. Cloud for Europe comprises 22 partners from 10 European countries and is funded under the Seventh European Framework Programme for Research. The opening keynote address will be delivered by Neelie Kroes, Vice-President of the European Commission.
Cloud for Europe brings together industry and the public sector to establish a digital single market for cloud computing in Europe. The project gives a clear view on public sector requirements and usage scenarios for cloud computing. Supported by stakeholders from both public and private sectors, Cloud for Europe aims to remove the obstacles for cloud adoption and to harmonise the requirements from different public organisations beyond national borders. A joint pre-commercial procurement (PCP) for services will follow the scoping of those requirements that are identified as missing, or need to be adopted for government use. Cloud for Europe will also establish suitable and recommended contractual terms and conditions for future cloud procurements. Lessons learnt and the developed cloud services will be published for re-use of the PCP instrument.
